THE EXAMINATION OF HEALTH BEHAVIORS STAGE OF CHANGE (TRANSTHEORETICAL MODEL) GIVEN FOR PREGNANCY PREPARATION TRAINING TO WOMEN IN THE PRECONCEPTION PERIOD
 
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect given education women who have never had any pregnancy, considering pregnancy to stages of change (transtheoretical model) of health behaviors in women. Method: The study is a Randomized Controlled Education Intervention Study. The study universe was women who have never had any pregnancy in the Selçuklu/Konya from17 Number Family Health Center. The sample size was calculated to be at least 88 women in each group with 5% error, 80% power and 0.3 effect size (medium effect) with G * Power 3.1.7 program. Of the 15 women in the Intervention Group, 13 women in the Control Group were excluded from the study, and the study was terminated with 180 women (intervention=91, control=89). The women who came to the center were evaluated in terms of sample criteria and randomized sampling was divided into two groups. In the first interview, all the women were given: Introductory Information Form, Preconceptional Risk Assessment Form, Evaluation Process of Change Stages, Healthy Lifestyle Behavior Scale-II (HLBS), and General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE). Pregnancy preparation training was given to the Intervention Group and routine practice was applied to the Control Group. After four weeks with the Intervention Group, a telephone call was made for a reminder. The same questionnaire forms were applied second time to all women eight weeks after the first interview. Results: Most of the women in the Intervention and Control Groups who participated in the study were in the 18-35 age groups. The women in Intervention Group between pre-post test results was found to be statistically significant difference that based on the effect health behaviors on the stages of change given education about use of Folic Acid, practice of regular physical activity, adequate and balanced nutrition, there was no significant difference in the Control Group. According to the pre-post test results of women in the Intervention Group, there was a statistically significant difference in terms of mean score of GSE, HLBS and sub-scales. By the pre-post test results of the women in the Control Group, it was determined that there was a statistically significant difference in HLBS and health responsibility, spiritual development and stress management sub-scales. Conclusion: Pregnancy preparation training given in preconceptional period has been effective in increasing the stage of change health behaviors which use of Folic Acid, practice of regular physical activity, adequate and balanced nutrition, the general self-efficacy level and healthy lifestyle behaviors of women.
