THE EXAMINATION OF EFFECT OF LIPID PROFILE ON POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME

This study was conducted on 40 Samples of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) after their diagnosis, The study aimed to evaluate the lipid profile (triglycerides (TG), cholesterol (CH), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) associated with PCOS. Patients aged 19-45 years were included in the study and blood samples were taken during the menstrual cycle. Besides, 20 healthy controls were included to compare with PCOS. LDL-C, HDL-C, TG, and CH were significantly higher in the PCOS group than in the control group, whereas HDL-C was significantly lower in the PCOS group than in the control group (p <0.05). The results were distributed to three groups according to BMI, age and treatment. BMI was divided into three groups; BMI (18.5-24.9) (25.0-29.9) and (≥30) kg/m2. The results showed a highly significant increase (p≤0.05) in the LDL-C, HDL-C, TG, and CH compare to BMI (18.5-24.9) kg/m2 and (≥30) kg/m2. Age was divided into three groups (19-26) (27-35) (36-45) years. The results showed a significant increase (p≤0.05) in the age group (45-36) years compared with the age groups (26-19) years and (35-27) years. As for the cholesterol concentration, there were no significant differences between the studied age groups. The concentration of LDL-C showed a significant increase (p≤0.05) in the age groups (35-27) and (45 -36) compared with the age group (26-19 years). Treatment was divided into three groups according to metformin, progesterone contraceptive used and non-used of the treatment. Results showed a significant decrease in P≤0.05 level in infected women used for the treatment of metformin and progestogen contraceptives compared with infected women and without using any treatment in the concentrations of triglyceride, cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein.
