In the study, the effect of breastfeeding education based on motivational interviewing on breastfeeding motivation, success, self-efficacy perception and duration of exclusive breastfeeding in primiparous mothers after cesarean section was examined. The study was conducted in a randomized controlled experimental design. Mothers were assigned by randomly to the intervention group (n=39) and the control group (n=37). The intervention group received of motivational interview-based breastfeeding education four sessions in total, while the control group did not receive motivational interview-based breastfeeding education. Both groups received the hospital's routine breastfeeding education. Data were collected using within the "Introductory Information Form", "Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale Short Form", "LATCH Breastfeeding Assessment Tool", "The Primipara Breastfeeding Motivation Scale" and "Importance and Confidence-Sufficiency Rulers”. In addition, in the follow-ups except for the pretest, mothers were asked about exclusive breastfeeding. Before starting the study, approval was received from the ethics committee (date: 30.03.2022 and number: 2022/28). The study was registered at ClinicalTrials database (NCT05562245). It was found that the effect of being in the intervention and control groups and the factors showing measurement at different times on mothers' breastfeeding self-efficacy, breastfeeding success, the value ascribed to breastfeeding, self-effectiveness and breastfeeding confidence-sufficiency scores were significant (p<0.05). In this context, motivational interviewing has been found to be positively affects breastfeeding.
